"Paradise On the Ocean" is a collection of 14 original acoustic
songs (1 by my brother) about family, friends, and living in the
Hawaiian Islands. Some songs reflect my background in the folk
music of the Rocky Mountains while others, my love of Hawaiian
slack key guitar.
You may purchase "Paradise On the Ocean" at the following stores:
Love for a Lifetime
Love must be tough as well as tender. This song is about love
transcending physical separation and was inspired by the military
families with whom I work, and the strain of their sacrifices.
Flowers 'Cross the Sea
A bedtime song for my daughter who is adopted from China. She
is named for flowers and this song of hope describes our little girl's
delicate strength and the faith required to wait for her.
Always Love
Working ridiculously long hours and having to sleep at the office
inspired this song about missing my wife.
Aloha Kaneohe
Written for dear friends who were deeply saddened to move from
O`ahu to the mainland. Knowing their ties to the island are
forever, their departure was bittersweet. "Through tears of rain,
Kaneohe is smiling", "aloha Kane`ohe is never goodbye".
Love is Not a Stranger
Forcing love doesn't work. It must first be found within ourselves.
I wrote this about myself and about my housemate while each of
us was down in the dumps. Ultimately, she and I married each
other so love is not a stranger indeed!
Out Over the Ocean
I've always loved this song by my brother Brad. Written during a
high school vacation with our family, the lyrics speak sweetly of
youthful infatuation.
Kekake Kea
An upbeat slack key guitar piece with several definitive features of
the genre such as vamps, phrasings, a steady bass line, slides,
chimes, and bass runs.
Paradise on the Ocean
My brother Brad and I rented a boat to go sailing. Though it was
truly paradise on the ocean, I missed my wife.
Island Memory
A co-worker's boyfriend moved to the mainland saying they would
maintain their relationship by long-distance. He failed to keep his
end of the deal and she was heartbroken. In an attempt to make
her feel better, I wrote this from his perspective, kicking himself in
the future for having made the mistake of leaving.
Gift of Life
My brother-in-law donated bone marrow to a stranger, a single
mom with young kids, thus saving her life. When they ultimately
met for the first time ever in our home, she asked me to write a
song to commemorate this poignant moment. The song wrote
itself.
Love that Lasts Forever
A song for my mom. As kids go through stages and become
adults, they grow to appreciate their parents in new ways.
Dedicated to all those who raise children, this song describes the
timeless love handed down from one generation to the next
Lullaby Suite
This 3-song suite begins with "Hush be Still" and "Bye Low", songs
sung to the children in our family for at least the last 5
generations. The lyrics change to include the child's name and
reflect whether a boy or girl. A lovely tradition I hope continues!
The third, "Ka Leo Nahenahe" came to me while playing slack key
to get my daughter to sleep. The name for the song (the sweet
melodious voice) was given by Elodia Kane.
Love Ever Grows
A song about commitment as I watched close friends endure
difficulty in their marriage. "A boat on a tumbling sea, tossed upon
a storm. Hold onto love and believe, it brings you to its shore".
Ua Kailua
Written on my lanai (porch) during a late night rain at home in
Kailua. The title means "Kailua Rain".
